Advocacy Report
Vision Zero
Transit-only lanes, more roundabouts and more may be coming to Guelph. Council's committee of the whole approved the Vision Zero action plan, which are meant to make travel within the city safer.
The Transit Action Alliance of Guelph submitted correspondence in support of Vision Zero and pointed out that Vision Zero only works when there is good transit in place. We encouraged council on the need for a 15-minute or better high frequency transit network along the proposed Quality Transit Network, which includes the conversion of general traffic lanes to dedicated transit lanes.
Guelph City Council is hosting a Vision Zero workshop tomorrow (Wednesday, March 19) at 10 AM, streamed live at guelph.ca/live. This workshop is a valuable opportunity to learn about the city staff’s recommendations and get an inside look at the steps being proposed to make our streets safer for everyone.
Why High-Frequency Transit Matters:
Imagine Guelph with less traffic and safer streets. That's the power of a high-frequency transit network, where buses arrive every 15 minutes or less. By making public transit convenient and reliable, we reduce our reliance on cars, directly easing congestion and lowering the potential for accidents. Dedicated bus lanes, a key component, streamline travel for everyone, not just bus riders. Prioritizing buses means a more efficient, sustainable, and safer city for all.
Submit Your Feedback by Friday, March 21 at 10 AM
After the workshop, we encourage you to share your thoughts with City Council before Friday at 10 AM. Personal feedback from residents like you can help push for bold, effective action. Whether you’ve experienced slow transit, unsafe crossings and bus stops, or have concerns about vulnerable road users, your input matters.
How You Can Help:
Watch the Workshop – Tune in live at 1PM on March 19 at guelph.ca/live.
Submit Written Comments – Email your feedback to City Council by Friday, March 21 at 10 AM.
Sign Up to Delegate – Speak directly to Council on March 25 (in person or virtually).
TAAG will be sending additional written correspondance for the meeting so please keep an eye on for the posting on our website and socials.
A new Transportation Advisory Committee may be coming to City Hall – And why we need your voice to keep transit issues on track
The City of Guelph is proposing to establish a new Transportation Advisory Committee, consolidating the Transit Advisory Committee into a broader transportation focus. This committee will provide strategic counsel on pivotal plans, including the Transportation Master Plan, Guelph Transit’s Future Ready Action Plan, and Vision Zero, shaping the city's transportation future. Although advisory, its recommendations will directly inform City Council decisions.
This restructuring presents a potential challenge: ensuring all transit issues remain a priority. TAAG is dedicated to amplifying transit users' voices. We urge you to participate. Sign up as a member, Volunteer or join our board to help us secure a transportation system that is safer, more equitable, and sustainable for all.
Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day on March 18
From navigating traffic to maintaining vehicles and ensuring safety, transit employees play a vital role in our daily lives. Whether it’s an early morning commute or a late-night ride home, their hard work makes it all possible.
How You Can Show Appreciation:
A simple “thank you,” smile, or kind word can go a long way in brightening a transit worker’s day. Let them know their efforts are seen and valued! Let’s make sure every transit worker feels the gratitude they deserve! This March 18, and everyday, let’s take a moment to recognize and celebrate the people who keep our community moving forward. You can send a message to Guelph Transit workers here.

Guelph, are you ready to shape your city's future?
