Advocacy Report
New Route 17B Skips over Guelph
TAAG Director Mary-Ann has written a letter to Metrolinx, local politicians, and local media to address concerns about the new summer-only 17B GO Transit bus route connecting Kitchener and the Hamilton/Niagara Region. This new route begins and ends in Kitchener.
Metrolinx has acknowledged TAAG's concerns, stating that the current schedule is "not ideal" and doesn't fully serve the neighboring cities along the route as intended. They attribute this to a lack of necessary resources, specifically shortage of drivers and buses.
TAAG, along with More Transit Southern Ontario and TriTAG (Waterloo Region), is urging Metrolinx to invest in more resources for this growing region. We emphasize the urgent need for improved regional transit, operating seven days a week.
TAAG co-sponsors Federal Debate for Guelph
The Guelph Wellington Coalition for Social Justice hosted an all candidates debate on April 15th, supported by TAAG. Although our transit question was not addressed, we connected with community members regarding transit concerns and the multi-level governmental responsibilities.

Farmers Market Outreach
We were at the Guelph Farmers Market manning the Big Umbrella table for the GWCSJ. We had great conversations with members of the public and ran into candidates for MP as well. If you’d like to volunteer with us, click here. We will be back at the market in mid-June.
Attending the GCAT Annual General Meeting
Members of the Board attended the GCAT (Guelph Community for Active Transportation) Annual General meeting on April 22nd. We heard about the great things GCAT is doing and from keynote speaker Brian Doucet, Canada Research Chair in Urban Change and Social Inclusion at the University of Waterloo.

Transportation Summit set for October
TAAG, along with local transportation advocacy partners such as GCAT, are hosting a Transportation Summit this October! We are looking for volunteers to help us run this day long event on Saturday, October 18, 2025. Connect with us at contact@taaguelph.com to find out how to help and/or volunteer!
City-wide Wayfinding Project
Do you use transit to get around Guelph? Your experiences and insights are crucial to developing a user-friendly and accessible city-wide wayfinding system! We're asking TAAG members to share their thoughts on:
Guelph's identity: What makes our city unique, and how can this be reflected in signs and navigation tools?
Current wayfinding: What tools do you currently use, and what works well (or doesn't!) when navigating unfamiliar places?
Key destinations: What are the must-see spots and important amenities across the city for residents and visitors using transit?
Your input will directly influence the design of signs and digital tools, ensuring they meet the needs of all transit, active transit users and others. Help the city create a wayfinding system that truly makes getting around Guelph easier for everyone. Share your ideas and help build a more connected and accessible city by clicking here.
Wyndham St. North and St. George's Square design
We are encouraged with the designs for Wyndham and St. George’s Square, however, the section between Carden and Macdonell lacks any transit priority lanes or measures to allow buses to get though this busy intersection and entrance to Guelph Central Station. Help us tell City Hall to make a path for transit along this section. Share your thoughts to TAAG here or send them directly to the City here.
